The upcoming sequel to the post-apocalyptic horror classic, “28 Years Later,” is making headlines not just for its return to the infected-ridden world, but also for its groundbreaking approach to filmmaking. Director Danny Boyle, known for his visually stunning films like “Trainspotting” and “Slumdog Millionaire,” chose to shoot the entire film using an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

This decision challenges conventional filmmaking techniques and highlights the evolving capabilities of mobile technology. While “Shot on iPhone” campaigns have become increasingly common, “28 Years Later” marks a significant leap forward, demonstrating the iPhone’s potential to deliver cinematic quality in a major motion picture.

The film, set to release on June 20, 2025, revisits the post-apocalyptic world years after the rage virus ravaged the United Kingdom. The trailer offers glimpses of the new characters navigating the remnants of society, facing both the lingering threat of the infected and the challenges of rebuilding in a world forever changed.

Boyle’s choice to use the iPhone 15 Pro Max was driven by a desire for a more intimate and immersive filming experience. The phone’s compact size and portability allowed for greater flexibility and maneuverability on set, enabling the filmmakers to capture scenes in ways that would have been challenging with traditional camera setups.

The trailer showcases the impressive results of this approach, with stunning visuals that capture the film’s gritty atmosphere and intense action sequences. The iPhone’s advanced camera system, combined with Boyle’s artistic vision, delivers a cinematic experience that rivals films shot with traditional cameras.

“28 Years Later” not only promises a thrilling return to a beloved post-apocalyptic world but also serves as a landmark achievement in iPhone filmmaking, inspiring a new wave of cinematic creativity.
