YouTube Music has extended its AI-driven “Ask Music” radio generation feature to iOS devices, following its initial launch on Android. This update enables iPhone and iPad users to create personalized radio stations using simple text prompts.
Upon updating to the latest version of the app, users will find an “Ask for music” shelf prominently displayed on the Home tab. This section offers a carousel of ten suggested prompts, allowing for quick station creation with a single tap. Users also have the option to input their own prompts via a text field or voice input, describing a desired mood, activity, or listening experience.
After a prompt is entered, YouTube Music generates an AI radio station within a few seconds, utilizing the existing station card interface. The station displays the first three songs, and users can enable autoplay or save the station to their library. YouTube Music also generates a brief description for each AI radio station.
This AI-powered feature complements the existing Music Tuner functionality, which allows users to create radio stations by selecting artists and specifying preferences related to artist variety, music discovery, and filters. The Music Tuner can be accessed through the Library tab.
The “Ask Music” feature is available to YouTube Music or Music Premium subscribers. As of December, it was accessible in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. Google had previously indicated plans to expand the feature to more countries and iOS devices, and this expansion has now been implemented in version 8.10 and later. This update offers iOS users a new way to discover and listen to music tailored to their preferences.
