In its ongoing effort to enhance user experience, WhatsApp is constantly developing and testing new features. A recent discovery by WABetaInfo reveals that the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, version 2.24.18.14, includes a feature that allows users to manage contact syncing. While this may seem like a basic feature that should have been implemented long ago, it’s a welcome addition nonetheless.
The feature is particularly useful for users who have multiple WhatsApp accounts on the same phone. With this new functionality, users will be able to maintain separate contact lists for each account, enhancing privacy and organization. It addresses the question of why someone would have multiple accounts if everything, including contacts, had to be the same across them.
Users will have the ability to choose which contacts to sync to their phone and manage WhatsApp contacts from linked devices. This means that syncing from a secondary WhatsApp account can be disabled if desired.
Even if contact syncing is disabled for an account, users will still have the option to manually sync individual contacts in an upcoming beta release. Once synced, a contact will be accessible across all linked devices. Furthermore, a new contact backup option is being introduced to help users restore their contacts in case they reinstall the app.
It’s important to note that these features are still in development and may not be available globally for several months. There is also a possibility that WhatsApp could decide to abandon the feature altogether, although this is relatively rare.
Recently, WhatsApp was also found to be working on a passkey authentication feature for end-to-end encrypted backups, adding another layer of security for users.
