Wet-to-dry hair straightening: Dyson launches Airstrait™ in the UAE

Dyson has announced the release of the Airstrait™ straightener in the Middle East, offering a new approach to straightening hair using air instead of traditional hot plates. Available in Nickle Copper and Prussian Blue, the Airstrait™ promises to straighten hair from wet to dry without heat damage.

Designed for various hair types, the Airstrait™ claims to achieve natural straight styles with body and movement while maintaining hair health and strength. The straightener utilizes two arms that channel high-pressure air blades to simultaneously dry and straighten hair.

The Airstrait™ features two 1.5mm apertures along its arms, accelerating airflow to create high-velocity downward air blades. These blades converge at a 45-degree angle, forming a focused jet that straightens hair while drying it with control. This directional airflow is said to align hair strands for a smooth and shiny finish.

Dyson has invested heavily in researching hair science and airflow dynamics to understand the impact of thermal, mechanical, and chemical damage on hair health. Their research suggests that styling wet hair with powerful airflow minimizes the need for high heat, resulting in less frizz and flyaways while preserving natural shine.

The Airstrait™ is powered by the Dyson Hyperdymium™ motor, specifically designed for Dyson’s hair care technologies. This small and lightweight motor generates enough airflow to dry and straighten hair simultaneously, even when wet. A 13-blade impeller spins at up to 106,000rpm, propelling over 11.9 liters of air per second and generating up to 3.5kPa of air pressure, sufficient for straightening wet hair.

Similar to other Dyson hair care products, the Airstrait™ features intelligent heat control. Glass bead thermistors measure the airflow temperature 30 times per second to prevent heat damage and protect hair’s natural shine. This data is used to regulate the heating element, ensuring the airflow doesn’t exceed the required temperature.

The straightener offers various styling options, including “Wet” and “Dry” modes with adjustable heat and airflow settings. In “Wet” mode, users can choose from three heat settings: 80°C (175°F), 110°C (230°F), and 140°C (285°F). In “Dry” mode, options include 120°C (250°F) or 140°C (285°F) with a “boost” function. Additionally, airflow control offers two speed settings, low and high, along with a cold shot and root drying mode.

Customers can experience the Airstrait™ firsthand at Dyson Demo stores, where they can try the product and receive expert advice. Pre-orders are currently open for AED 1,999 in the UAE.
