Asus has taken a bold step in the wearable tech space with the launch of the VivoWatch 6 AERO, the first fitness tracker capable of measuring both blood pressure and ECG (electrocardiogram) data. This marks a notable development in the market, as these features have previously been reserved for more advanced and bulkier smartwatches.
Unlike its larger smartwatch counterparts, the VivoWatch 6 AERO is designed as a lightweight fitness band, weighing just 27 grams including the strap. It features a compact 1.1-inch AMOLED display and is powered by a 135 mAh battery, which Asus says can last up to five days with typical use and up to seven days in Power Save mode.
What really sets the VivoWatch 6 AERO apart is its integration of advanced health sensors into a slim wearable form. The device is equipped with ECG, PPG, GPS, and G-sensors, all working together to track health metrics such as SpO2, heart rate, sleep quality, step count, and calorie burn. It’s compatible with Android 10 and iOS 13 or later, and connects via Bluetooth 5.0 or newer versions.
A key engineering feature of the VivoWatch 6 AERO is its use of a sputter deposition process, which enables the ECG and PPG sensors to be embedded directly into the band without adding bulk. This approach allows for continuous health tracking in a more discreet and comfortable package.
Beyond health monitoring, the tracker includes built-in GPS for improved activity tracking and 5ATM water resistance, making it suitable for various workouts and everyday wear. The device also runs Asus Health AI 5.0, an updated algorithm that processes data in real time to give users instant feedback on their health status.
While Asus hasn’t shared pricing details yet, the previous-generation VivoWatch 5 AERO launched at $130, giving a hint at what to expect. The VivoWatch 6 AERO will be available in gray and black, though a specific release date is still under wraps.
With the addition of ECG and blood pressure monitoring, Asus is expanding the functionality of fitness bands in a segment that’s typically been more limited. The VivoWatch 6 AERO could appeal to health-focused users looking for advanced features in a smaller, more affordable form factor than premium smartwatches.
