Google Messages is gearing up to make it easier to find group conversations. In an upcoming update, the app will display relevant group chats on the New Conversations page as you type in the “To:” field. This change enhances the existing search functionality, allowing users to quickly locate group chats by name or participant.
Currently in beta testing, this feature provides a more streamlined way to access group conversations alongside individual chats. While searching for group chats by name or participant is already possible, this update integrates the functionality directly into the chat creation process.
The update also includes previews of the last message related to your search term for each group chat, offering additional context. Tapping on a result opens the corresponding group chat.
This improvement follows other recent changes to the New Conversations page, such as the removal of “Top Contacts” in 2023. Google Messages continues to refine its features, with ongoing work on redesigned read receipts, new animations, and dual-SIM support for RCS chats.
While the group chat search feature is currently limited to beta testers, it’s expected to roll out to all users in a future update.
