Truecaller, the popular caller identification app, is enhancing its AI Assistant with the ability to answer calls using a digital replica of your voice. Partnering with Microsoft, Truecaller is leveraging the Personal Voice technology from Azure AI speech to create a more personalized and authentic interaction for callers.
Introduced in 2022, Truecaller’s AI Assistant already boasts features like answering calls, screening calls, taking messages, and recording conversations. The new personal voice feature takes it a step further by allowing users to record their voice and have the AI replicate it to greet callers.
Microsoft recently showcased this Personal Voice technology at Build 2024, and Truecaller is one of the early access partners. The feature is set to roll out in several countries, including the US, Canada, India, and others, over the coming weeks.
During calls, the AI Assistant will inform the caller that they are speaking to a digital voice, ensuring transparency. Additionally, Truecaller will not allow users to customize the introductory greeting when using a personal voice to maintain authenticity and prevent potential misuse.
Microsoft has also implemented security measures in its Personal Voice technology. Watermarks are added to the synthetic speech outputs, and access to the technology is limited to registered users.
This new feature represents an exciting development in AI-powered communication, offering a more personalized and engaging experience for Truecaller users and their callers.
