TikTok is officially offline in the United States. Late Saturday night, the app stopped functioning, and its listings were removed from Apple’s App Store and Google Play, just hours before a January 19th ban took effect. This marks a significant moment in the ongoing battle over TikTok’s future in the U.S.
When users open the app, a stark message greets them:
“Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned.”
The app now directs users to its website for additional information and offers an option to download their data. ByteDance’s other popular app, CapCut, has also been removed from U.S. app stores.
