TikTok has implemented new parental control features aimed at providing parents with increased oversight of their teenagers’ app usage. These updates include tools for managing screen time and restricting access during specific periods.
Parents can now set time limits on TikTok usage, block access during designated hours such as school or nighttime, and establish recurring schedules. Teenagers can request additional screen time, which parents can approve using a passcode.
The updated controls also allow parents to view their teenager’s following and follower lists, as well as blocked accounts.
TikTok has introduced a “wind-down” feature for users under 16, which displays alerts and plays calming music to encourage reduced usage. If teenagers continue using the app after the initial reminder, a subsequent prompt will appear.
TikTok is also exploring the use of meditation exercises to promote improved sleep habits among its younger users.
These changes are part of an effort by TikTok to address concerns regarding the safety of minors on its platform. The company is also working on age verification methods, including partnerships with telecommunications providers.
Experts suggest that while these new tools may provide parents with greater control, they should be used in conjunction with open communication and education about responsible app usage.
