X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced a substantial price increase for its Premium+ subscription. The monthly cost will rise by 37.5%, from $16 to $22 in the US, with similar increases in other regions.
The company justifies the price hike by highlighting the subscription’s benefits, including an ad-free experience, priority support, access to new tools like Radar, and increased limits on Grok AI models. X also emphasizes that subscription fees contribute to its creator program, which rewards users for high-quality content.
New subscribers will be subject to the updated pricing immediately, while existing subscribers will see the change reflected in their billing cycles starting January 20, 2025.
This price increase comes as X faces competition from ad-free and free-to-use alternatives like Meta’s Threads and Bluesky. The higher subscription cost could potentially drive users to explore these competing platforms.
