Tecno has unveiled a new concept: the Phantom Ultimate 2. This tri-fold unfurls to a whopping 10-inch display, blurring the lines between smartphones and full-sized tablets.
While horizontal foldables already offer a taste of tablet-like experiences, the Phantom Ultimate 2 takes it to the next level. Its 6.48-inch folded screen expands into a 10-inch LTPO OLED display with a stunning 1,620 x 2,880px resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio.
This feat is achieved through Tecno’s self-developed dual hinge mechanism, ensuring a remarkably thin 11mm profile when folded. The brand claims the Phantom Ultimate 2 is the first foldable to use TDDI technology, further streamlining the design.
The hinge design not only enables the tri-fold functionality but also minimizes the screen crease, a common challenge in foldable devices. Tecno envisions a range of unique use cases for the Phantom Ultimate 2, including a laptop mode for note-taking and a tent mode for seamless dual-screen video calls with live translation.
The massive 10-inch screen also unlocks a multi-window mode, allowing users to run three or more apps simultaneously for a truly immersive multitasking experience.
While Tecno hasn’t announced a commercial release date for the Phantom Ultimate 2, this concept showcases the brand’s ambition and technological prowess in the foldable space. It’s a tantalizing glimpse into the future of smartphones, where boundaries between devices continue to dissolve, offering users unprecedented flexibility and functionality.
