Samsung Electronics is set to roll out a major update to its voice assistant, Bixby, enhancing its AI capabilities for smoother and more intuitive control of home appliances. Starting August 27th, users can expect a Bixby that understands complex commands in natural language, promising a user-friendly experience.
The upgrade focuses on three key areas: Multi-Intent (understanding complex commands), Multi-Turn (recalling previous conversations), and Device Q&A (responding to product-related questions). Initially, five 2024 Samsung appliances will receive the update: the Bespoke 4-Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™, Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™, Bespoke Slide-in Range, Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™ AI, and Bespoke AI WindFree™ Gallery Freestanding Air Conditioner.
With Multi-Intent, Bixby can process multiple requests within a single command, including controlling other SmartThings-connected devices. For instance, users can ask their Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™ to check the weather and start a wash cycle while also instructing their robot vacuum to clean the living room.
Multi-Turn allows Bixby to remember the context of previous conversations, leading to more natural interactions. Users can ask their Bespoke 4-Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™ about their dinner schedule and then, based on the response, instruct the washing machine to finish an hour before dinner.
Finally, Device Q&A provides users with troubleshooting assistance and information about appliance features, directly through voice interaction.
In addition to Bixby enhancements, Samsung is introducing ‘Generative Wallpaper’ for Family Hub™ refrigerators. This feature allows users to create personalized wallpapers by choosing from seven themes and six art styles.
Samsung’s focus on enhancing user experience through these updates underscores its commitment to creating appliances that seamlessly integrate into daily life. These new features, including the enhanced Bixby and Generative Wallpaper, will be showcased at IFA 2024, giving consumers a firsthand look at how Samsung’s AI innovations are shaping the future of home appliances.
