Samsung is diving headfirst into the cloud gaming market with a new service that allows Galaxy users to play Android games without the need for downloads. The service, which has been in beta for the past year, is now officially available through Samsung’s Gaming Hub.
At launch, the platform boasts a library of 23 games, including popular titles like Monopoly Go, Candy Crush Saga, and Honor of Kings. Samsung promises a seamless experience, allowing users to instantly jump into games without the storage constraints or lengthy download times typically associated with mobile gaming.
While the convenience of cloud gaming on PCs and consoles is well-established, the need for such a service on mobile devices might seem less obvious. After all, most people already have a smartphone capable of playing games, and mobile titles generally don’t require the same storage capacity as AAA console or PC games.
However, Samsung’s strategy appears to be twofold. Firstly, this service caters to users with limited storage space on their devices. As mobile games continue to grow in size and complexity, streaming offers a viable alternative to local downloads. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, Samsung aims to streamline the process of user acquisition for game developers. By enabling instant gameplay directly from an advertisement, the service eliminates the friction of navigating to an app store and waiting for a game to download.
This move aligns with Samsung’s broader efforts to establish itself in the gaming space. The company previously launched the Gaming Hub on its smart TVs, offering access to various streaming services and a selection of exclusive games. With this new cloud gaming service, Samsung extends its reach to mobile devices, providing a free and convenient way for Galaxy users to enjoy a growing library of Android games.
