Prime Video has unveiled a new feature called X-Ray Recaps, designed to provide viewers with concise summaries of TV shows and movies using generative AI. This addition complements the existing X-Ray feature, which offers detailed information about cast, music, and trivia related to the content being watched.
X-Ray Recaps offer personalized summaries of full seasons, individual episodes, or even portions of episodes, tailored to the viewer’s current position in the content. This feature addresses the challenge of keeping up with complex storylines or rejoining a series after a break.
Powered by Amazon Bedrock, a service for building generative AI applications, X-Ray Recaps utilize a combination of Bedrock models and custom AI models trained on Amazon SageMaker. These models analyze video segments, subtitles, and dialogue to generate comprehensive yet concise descriptions of on-screen events.
To prevent spoilers and maintain brevity, Amazon has implemented safeguards to ensure the recaps remain informative without revealing crucial plot points.
Currently in beta, X-Ray Recaps is rolling out to Fire TV customers in the US, with support for additional devices expected later this year. The feature is compatible with all Amazon MGM Studios Original series, including popular titles like “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and “The Boys.”
Fire TV users can access X-Ray Recaps on the Prime Video detail page or during playback within the X-Ray experience. Viewers can choose from various recap options, including full-season summaries.
