Opera has unveiled the second developer beta version of Opera One (R2), showcasing a range of new features and design enhancements aimed at improving the user experience. The update includes redesigned multimedia controls, split tabs, and expanded AI capabilities.
The revamped multimedia controls now appear in a resizable floating window, similar to the picture-in-picture video module, and adapt to the browser’s chosen theme. The floating window offers intuitive controls like play/pause, next, previous, pop-out, and volume adjustments.
Opera One R2 also introduces split tab functionality, allowing users to work on two web pages simultaneously within a single window. This feature is increasingly popular in modern browsers and enhances productivity. Additionally, a new indicator, called a trace, highlights recently closed tabs for users with over 30 tabs open.
Opera continues to innovate in the AI space, building on its existing “Aria” assistant and AI-powered summarization features. The new version incorporates image and voice generation capabilities, as well as image understanding, which were previously available through an experimental AI program. A new page context mode lets users ask Aria questions about a specific webpage, aiding in finding, translating, or summarizing information.
Opera plans to release Opera One R2 to a wider audience later this year, making these enhancements available to all users.
