OpenAI is broadening the availability of its AI-powered task management tool, Operator, to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in several countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the U.K. This expansion brings Operator to most regions where ChatGPT is currently accessible, with the exception of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.
Launched initially in the U.S. in January, Operator functions as an AI agent capable of executing various tasks on behalf of users, such as booking tickets, making reservations, filing expense reports, and completing online purchases. This functionality places Operator in a growing category of AI agent tools, alongside similar offerings from companies like Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit.
Currently, Operator is exclusively available to subscribers of the ChatGPT Pro plan, priced at $200 per month. Users can access Operator through a dedicated webpage, although OpenAI has plans to integrate it with all ChatGPT clients in the future. To complete tasks, Operator operates within a separate browser window that users can control at any time.
Despite the growing competition in the AI agent space, OpenAI’s Operator distinguishes itself through its broader availability. Google’s AI agent project remains on a waitlist, Anthropic’s agent interface is primarily accessible through an API, and Rabbit’s action model is limited to users of its specific device.
This expansion of Operator’s reach underscores the increasing interest in and development of AI agents capable of streamlining everyday tasks and enhancing productivity. As the technology continues to evolve, it is likely to become an even more integral part of how people interact with AI and manage their digital lives.
