OnePlus has become the first smartphone brand outside of Google to release the Android 16 Beta 2 update, rolling it out to users of the OnePlus 13. The update arrives as Google continues to accelerate its Android 16 development timeline, having already released Beta 3 to Pixel devices. While competitors like Samsung are still distributing Android 15-based updates, OnePlus has moved ahead with the latest beta version of Android 16.
Interestingly, OnePlus skipped the Beta 1 phase entirely and is pushing Beta 2 directly to users. According to the company, this early access build is targeted at developers and experienced users, as it may contain bugs and system instabilities.
Alongside the rollout, OnePlus has published a list of known issues users should be aware of. These include problems with the update notification window, UI lags, camera malfunctions (including crashes and blurry previews), Bluetooth call glitches, and occasional screen freezing. Users may also encounter performance issues with camera modes like Ultra Steady and Macro.
The Android 16 Beta 2 installation comes with specific prerequisites. To proceed with the update, users must ensure that the device has at least 30% battery life, 4GB of available storage, and is currently running software version 15.0.0.703 or earlier. Notably, devices locked to T-Mobile or Verizon are not compatible with this build.
The update is available for download in multiple regional versions, including the North American (NA), Indian (IN), European (EU), and Global (GLO) variants of the OnePlus 13.
Although this beta release isn’t recommended for general users due to stability issues, it gives a glimpse into how Android 16 is shaping up on non-Google hardware. Those interested in testing the software early can find the download links on OnePlus’s official channels.
