Samsung’s upcoming One UI 7, based on Android 15, is poised to bring significant changes to Galaxy smartphones, including a revamped notification management system designed to address the pervasive issue of notification overload. The One UI 7 beta program offers a sneak peek at this new feature, called Filter Notifications, along with other exciting updates.
Filter Notifications introduces a more organized approach to managing alerts, allowing users to prioritize important notifications while keeping less critical ones tucked away for later review. This feature categorizes notifications into two groups: Priority Notifications, which remain prominent, and Less Critical Notifications, which are subtly grouped for later viewing.
Users can filter notifications based on various criteria, including age, background activity, and minimization status. These filtered notifications are neatly organized within a compact “X more notifications” pill at the bottom of the notification panel, ensuring a clutter-free experience without losing access to any alerts.
Beyond Filter Notifications, One UI 7 introduces several other noteworthy enhancements:
- Vertical App Drawer: A long-awaited feature that replaces the side-scrolling app drawer with a more intuitive vertical layout.
- Now Bar: Samsung’s take on Apple’s Live Activities, providing real-time updates from selected apps.
- Split Notification & Quick Settings Panels: A cleaner design that separates notifications and quick settings for improved functionality.
- Game Booster Refresh Rate Settings: Enhanced control over refresh rates for smoother gameplay.
One UI 7 is expected to officially launch in January 2025, alongside the Galaxy S25 series. The beta program is currently available for Galaxy S24 users, allowing Samsung to gather feedback and fine-tune the user experience.
With its focus on enhanced notification management and a range of other improvements, One UI 7 promises a more refined and user-friendly experience for Galaxy smartphone owners.
