Microsoft has integrated phone control functionality into its Copilot application, allowing users to manage various smartphone tasks directly from their PCs. This update, announced in a recent blog post, enhances the Phone Connection app, formerly known as Phone Plugin, with a refreshed user interface and expanded capabilities.
The update aims to streamline routine tasks by enabling users to access contacts, send messages, set alarms and timers, and locate places using their phone’s map, all through the Copilot application. This integration eliminates the need to physically interact with the smartphone for these common actions.
To utilize the Phone Connection app, users must have the Windows app version 1.24112.110.0 or later installed. Additionally, the Link to Windows app is required on the Android device, and users must be signed into their Microsoft account. A new setting within the Copilot app allows users to toggle the phone control feature on or off.
Once configured, users can employ natural language commands to interact with their smartphone through Copilot. This functionality is designed to be compatible with most PCs, without requiring high-end hardware.
Microsoft has indicated that the update will be generally available to all users by the end of February 2025. However, the Phone Connection feature is not currently available in the web version of Copilot.
This integration represents Microsoft’s effort to enhance cross-device functionality and improve user productivity by consolidating smartphone and PC interactions.
