Meta is significantly expanding the availability of its AI assistant, bringing it to new regions and languages. Starting today, users in Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, the Philippines, and the UK can access Meta AI. The company also plans to launch the assistant in 15 more countries in the coming weeks, including Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Yemen.
This expansion coincides with increased language support for Meta AI. Tagalog is now available, with Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, and Vietnamese coming soon. This move reflects Meta’s commitment to making its AI accessible to a diverse global audience.
Users can interact with Meta AI through the web or within Meta’s suite of social media apps, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Additionally, Meta AI is being integrated into Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in the UK and Australia. While UK users will initially have access to voice support only, the full multimodal experience is expected to be available in the future.
Notably absent from this expansion is the European Union. Meta previously stated it would not launch multimodal AI services in the EU due to regulatory concerns. This highlights the ongoing tension between tech companies and European regulators regarding the development and deployment of artificial intelligence.
With this expansion, Meta AI takes a significant step towards becoming a truly global AI assistant, offering its capabilities to a wider user base and paving the way for future growth and development.
