LineageOS, the popular custom ROM known for revitalizing older smartphones, has released LineageOS 22.1 based on Android 15 QPR1. This latest version arrives just three months after the Android 15 source code was released, bringing the latest Android features to a wide range of devices.
The LineageOS team reports that this release cycle was notably smoother than previous ones, allowing for a broader range of device support from day one. LineageOS 22.1 is already available for over 100 devices, including various Pixel models, Fairphone 4 and 5, Asus Zenfone 5Z, and several OnePlus and Motorola phones.
This version introduces a new music app called Twelve, replacing the aging Eleven app. Twelve boasts a Material You design, landscape support, enhanced search functionality, and improved Android Auto integration. Additionally, LineageOS 22.1 includes a built-in PDF reader based on the Jetpack PDF library used in Google Chrome and Files by Google.
Other notable changes in LineageOS 22.1 include:
- Security patches from March 2024 to November 2024
- Updates to SeedVault and Etar apps
- WebView updated to Chromium 131.0.6778.200
- Optimized extraction utilities for faster ROM installation
- Support for virtIO targets (QEMU/crosvm/UTM, etc.)
