Intel has announced the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 18, 2025. This decision follows the retirement of former CEO Pat Gelsinger in late 2024. David Zinsner and Michelle Johnston Holthaus served as interim co-CEOs during the transition.
Lip-Bu Tan brings extensive experience in the technology and semiconductor industry to his new role. He has a career spanning over 20 years in chipmaking and software. Notably, he served as CEO of Cadence Design Systems from 2009 to 2021. Lip-Bu Tan joined Intel’s board of directors in 2021.
Tan’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in physics from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, a Master of Science in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and an MBA from the University of San Francisco. He is also a recipient of the Semiconductor Industry Association’s Robert N. Noyce Award.
In a statement regarding his appointment, Lip-Bu Tan expressed his honor in joining Intel and his recognition of the company’s potential. He emphasized Intel’s computing platform, customer base, and manufacturing capabilities.
David Zinsner will continue to serve as executive vice president and chief financial officer at Intel, and Michelle Johnston Holthaus will remain chief executive officer of Intel products.
