Instagram is rolling out several new features to enhance its direct messaging (DM) experience. Key among these is the long-awaited ability to edit messages for up to 15 minutes after sending. This handy tool allows users to fix typos, rephrase, or completely change a message that wasn’t quite right.
To edit a DM, simply press and hold the message, then choose “Edit” from the pop-up menu. Edited messages will display an “Edited” label, keeping the conversation transparent. This feature mirrors a similar function offered by Apple’s iMessage.
Additionally, users will soon be able to pin up to three DM threads to the top of their inbox. Pinning is done by swiping left or long-pressing the chat, then selecting “Pin.” Pinned chats remain easily accessible and can serve as reminders to revisit a conversation later.
Instagram has also recently introduced the option for all users to disable read receipts, either for all chats or specific conversations. This feature can be managed by navigating to account settings, selecting “Messages and story replies,” and toggling “Show read receipts.”
Finally, Instagram has made it easier to save and access your favorite stickers in DMs. Simply press and hold the desired sticker to save it, and it will then be conveniently located at the top of the sticker selection the next time you open your DMs.
