Google has unveiled a range of new features for Chromebooks, headlined by generative AI tools and the integration of its Gemini chatbot on Chromebook Plus laptops. These enhancements will soon be available on existing devices through an automatic update. However, if you’re in the market for a new laptop, you can experience these features right away on six new Chromebook models.
New Chromebook Features:
Standard Chromebooks now offer GIF screen recording, quick access to Google Tasks, and a Game Dashboard for remapping controls to your keyboard. Setup can also be done seamlessly using an Android phone.
New Chromebook Models:
- Asus Chromebook CM30: This 10.5-inch convertible Chromebook is designed for portability, featuring a detachable keyboard and a stand. It boasts 5MP front and rear cameras and offers up to 13 hours of battery life.Available with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with an option for LTE connectivity, it starts at $299 at Walmart.
- HP Chromebook 14-inch: This simple 14-inch laptop comes with an Intel Pentium CPU and 128GB of storage. Its standout feature is its vibrant color options, including “lilac lavender” and “sky blue.” It will be available at Walmart for $249, with a Chromebook Plus version available at Costco for $449.
New Chromebook Plus Laptops:
The latest Chromebook Plus models come equipped with Google’s new AI tools, including a “Help me write” text generator, generative wallpapers and video backgrounds, Magic Editor on Google Photos, and the Gemini chatbot. They also include a year of Google One AI Premium, offering Gemini Advanced, Gemini in Google apps, and 2TB of storage.
- Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714: Recommended for users seeking more power, this model features an Intel Core Ultra 5 115U processor and a 14-inch touchscreen. It will be available at Best Buy for $699.99.
- Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE: This gaming Chromebook has been upgraded with an obsidian black finish and an Intel Core 5 120U processor. It retains its 16-inch 1660p display and RGB keyboard and starts at $649 at Best Buy.
- Asus Chromebook Plus CX34: This model now boasts a 13th-gen Intel Core i5 CPU and a 14-inch build. It’s available at Best Buy starting at $499.
- HP Chromebook Plus x360 14-inch: This new 14-inch hybrid Chromebook Plus features an Intel Core i3-N305 processor and UFS storage. It will be available at Walmart for $429.
