Google’s Search widget for iPhone and iPad is getting a significant upgrade, introducing more customization options and quicker access to key features like the AI-powered Gemini.
Previously, the Medium-sized widget featured a search bar and a few preset shortcuts. Now, users can personalize the bottom row with up to four shortcuts, choosing from a range of options including “Activity,” “Gemini,” “Homework,” “Incognito,” various Lens actions, “Song Search,” and translation tools.
The highlight is undoubtedly the direct access to Gemini, Google’s experimental conversational AI. This move further emphasizes Google’s commitment to integrating AI into its core products, making it more accessible to users.
Android users shouldn’t feel left out, as Google is working on a similar update for the Android Search widget, though it might offer fewer customizable shortcuts.
Overall, this update enhances the utility and flexibility of the Google Search widget, catering to individual user preferences and spotlighting the rising importance of AI tools like Gemini in our daily interactions with technology.
