Google has updated its News app for Android, introducing a cleaner and more streamlined interface. The update focuses primarily on the app’s navigation bar, consolidating tabs for a less cluttered experience.
Previously, the Android version of the app featured separate tabs for “For you” and “Headlines.” The “For you” tab displayed a personalized feed of news stories based on user interests and location, while the “Headlines” tab offered a broader selection of news categorized by region and topic.
With the latest update, these two tabs have been merged into a single “Home” tab. This consolidation aims to simplify navigation and reduce the number of tabs users need to switch between to access their preferred news content. The “Following” and “Newsstand” tabs remain unchanged, allowing users to continue accessing news from their preferred sources and curated selections from newsroom editors.
This UI refresh is currently rolling out to Android users with version 5.120.x of the Google News app. While the updated interface has not yet been released for iOS, it is reportedly available on devices running the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1.
The Google News app is a free platform offering a comprehensive news experience, aggregating stories from various sources and providing personalized recommendations based on user preferences.
