Google is bringing its visual search capabilities to iOS users in a more integrated way with the introduction of “Search Screen with Google Lens” in the Chrome browser and Google app.
This new feature, reminiscent of the “Circle to Search” functionality available on Android, allows users to initiate a visual search directly within Chrome or the Google app. By simply using gestures like drawing, highlighting, or tapping on the screen, users can quickly search for information related to the content they are viewing.
This update eliminates the need to take screenshots or open new tabs to perform a visual search, streamlining the process and making it more convenient for iOS users. While the feature is limited to Chrome and the Google app due to iOS restrictions, it offers significant value within these commonly used applications.
Google plans to further enhance accessibility by adding a dedicated Google Lens icon to the Chrome address bar in the coming months. This will provide even quicker access to visual search capabilities while browsing the web.
In addition to the “Search Screen” feature, Google Lens is also receiving an upgrade with the introduction of AI Overviews. Similar to the AI Overviews in Google Search, this feature will provide users with concise summaries and relevant links when identifying objects with Google Lens. These AI Overviews aim to enhance understanding and provide helpful resources related to the objects being viewed.
The “Search Screen with Google Lens” feature is currently rolling out to Chrome and the Google app on iOS devices globally. This update brings a powerful and convenient visual search tool to iOS users, further integrating Google Lens into their daily browsing and search activities.
