Google Docs is rolling out a new feature that allows users to generate images directly within their documents using artificial intelligence. This AI-powered image generation capability is powered by Google’s Imagen 3 text-to-image model and is currently available to Google Workspace subscribers.
Users can access the feature through the Insert menu, selecting the “Help me create an image” option. This opens a sidebar panel where users can input a text description, choose an aspect ratio, and select a style for the image. The AI then generates several options for the user to choose from and add to their document.
This feature builds on the existing AI tool in Google Docs that allows users to generate cover images for their documents using Gemini. By expanding the AI’s capabilities to include inline image generation, Google is further enhancing the creative potential and efficiency of its document editing suite.

The inline image generation feature is currently limited to Google Workspace subscribers with specific plans, including Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and Google Workspace with Google One AI Premium. Google has not yet announced a wider release for this feature.
