Google developing “Shielded Email” for enhanced online privacy

Google is reportedly working on a new privacy feature called “Shielded Email” that will allow users to create email aliases for online sign-ups and interactions. This feature, discovered within the code of Google Play Services, aims to provide users with greater control over their online identity and protect their primary email address from unwanted contacts and potential data breaches.

“Shielded Email” will likely function similarly to Apple’s “Hide My Email” feature, generating unique email aliases that forward messages to the user’s main inbox. This allows users to interact with websites, apps, and services without revealing their primary email address, reducing the risk of spam, tracking, and data exposure.\

The need for such a feature is growing as online services increasingly require account creation, leading to concerns about privacy and data security. “Shielded Email” could offer a valuable solution for users who want to protect their online identity and minimize the risks associated with sharing their email address.

While the exact details of “Shielded Email” are still under development, its potential to enhance online privacy and reduce spam makes it a promising addition to Google’s suite of services.
