Google is reportedly working on a new feature called “Motion Cues” designed to alleviate motion sickness experienced while using Android phones in moving vehicles. Similar to Apple’s “Vehicle Motion Cues” in iOS 18, this feature aims to make using a phone in a car more comfortable.
Discovered within the code of the Google Play Store beta (v24.29.32) by Android Authority, the “Motion Cues” feature adds approximately 14 pairs of small dots to the screen. These dots move in sync with the phone’s movement, providing a visual reference point that helps users orient themselves to the motion of the vehicle.
Android Authority was able to activate the feature, revealing a new “Motion Cues” toggle in settings. The feature may eventually be able to automatically detect when a user is in a moving vehicle and activate the dots accordingly.
The “Motion Cues” feature requires permission to display over other apps, meaning the moving dots will appear across all applications. While the best solution for motion sickness is often to avoid looking at screens in moving vehicles, these visual cues may help some users mitigate discomfort by providing the brain with additional information about the vehicle’s movement.
The feature is still in early development, and an official release date is yet to be announced.
