Google has announced significant updates to its Gemini 2.0 family of AI models, including the general availability of Gemini 2.0 Flash and a public preview of Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite. These advancements promise faster performance, expanded capabilities, and greater accessibility for both developers and general users.
Gemini 2.0 Flash, initially revealed in late 2023, is now generally available for developers. This model boasts improved performance compared to its predecessor, Gemini 1.5 Pro, excelling in key AI benchmarks and operating at twice the speed. Developers can leverage Gemini 2.0 Flash through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI to build production-ready applications. It supports native tool use, a 1 million token context window, and multimodal input, including text, image, and audio.
Alongside the GA release of Gemini 2.0 Flash, Google has introduced Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, a new variant designed for cost-efficiency.Available in public preview, Flash-Lite also features a 1 million token context window and offers competitive pricing for developers.
Google has also provided an update on Gemini 2.0 Pro, its flagship model. The latest experimental version of Gemini 2.0 Pro offers enhanced coding capabilities and improved performance on complex prompts. It supports a 2 million token context window and integrates with tools like Google Search and code execution.
For everyday users, Google is rolling out Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental to Gemini app users. This model, based on the speed and performance of Gemini 2.0 Flash, features enhanced reasoning skills and, like the DeepSeek R1 model, reveals its thought process, allowing users to follow its line of reasoning.
Gemini Advanced subscribers now have access to an experimental version of Gemini 2.0 Pro, which further refines coding capabilities and excels at complex tasks. The Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental and 2.0 Pro Experimental models are currently being rolled out to Gemini web and mobile app users, with access for Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers coming soon. These updates demonstrate Google’s ongoing commitment to advancing its AI models and making them accessible to a wide range of users.
