Google has unveiled the Pixel 9a, the latest addition to its Pixel lineup, designed to be a more accessible option within the Pixel 9 series. Set to launch in April, the Pixel 9a aims to deliver key features at a more budget-friendly price point.
The Pixel 9a presents a revised design, featuring a flat aluminum frame and a flat polycarbonate back panel. This departs from the more rounded aesthetic of the previous Pixel 8a. The device incorporates Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the front for added durability. Notably, the Pixel 9a now boasts an IP68 rating, signifying resistance to dust and water, a welcome addition for users seeking enhanced protection.

The display has seen an upgrade, with a 6.3-inch pOLED screen offering a resolution of 2424×1080 and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display’s brightness capabilities have also been improved, with a peak brightness of 2700 nits (measured at 5% display area) and 1800 nits in HDR content (measured at 100% display area). While the display supports HDR, it is limited to 8-bit color depth. An optical fingerprint reader is integrated into the display for secure unlocking.
At the heart of the Pixel 9a is the Google Tensor G4 chip, accompanied by the Titan M2 security coprocessor. The device comes standard with 8GB of RAM and offers storage options of 128GB or 256GB. This combination aims to provide reliable performance for everyday tasks and applications.
The Pixel 9a introduces a new camera system, replacing the previous 64MP sensor with a 48MP f1.7 camera featuring Quad PD Dual Pixel AF and OIS. This new camera is capable of 4K video recording at up to 60fps. The ultra-wide camera remains a 13MP f2.2 unit, and the front-facing camera is the same 13MP unit from the Pixel 8a, which supports 4K video at 30fps.

A notable addition to the Pixel 9a is the Macro Focus feature, a first for the A-series, allowing users to capture detailed close-up shots. Additionally, the device now includes Google’s Astrophotography feature, expanding its capabilities for low-light photography.
The Pixel 9a is equipped with a 5100mAh battery, with Google claiming over 30 hours of battery life. The device supports 23W wired charging and Qi wireless charging. The phone ships with Android 15 and will receive seven years of OS and security updates, aligning with Google’s commitment to long-term software support.

The Pixel 9a will be available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony color options, though regional availability may vary. The device will be priced starting at $499.
