Google has significantly upgraded its Gemini Advanced AI model with the ability to recall past conversations, bringing it more in line with competitors like ChatGPT and Claude AI. This update allows users to seamlessly continue previous discussions, ask follow-up questions, and even have Gemini summarize earlier chats, eliminating the need to scroll through past interactions.
This memory-based enhancement transforms Gemini into a more conversational partner, capable of building on previous projects, discussions, and long-term plans. Key features of this update include:
- Referencing Past Discussions: Gemini recognizes when users bring up topics previously discussed and responds accordingly.
- Summarizing Previous Chats: Gemini can provide summaries of prior conversations upon request.
- Building on Ongoing Projects: Gemini can pick up where users left off on research notes, coding projects, or other tasks.
- Transparency: Gemini indicates when it references past chats in its responses, ensuring transparency about how it utilizes stored information.
Users retain control over Gemini’s memory, with the ability to review, delete, and manage stored conversations. They can also control the duration of chat history and disable Gemini Apps Activity through My Activity settings.
This upgrade builds on the previously introduced Saved Info feature, which allowed users to set personal preferences. With full chat recall, Gemini Advanced now offers a more seamless and continuous conversational experience, rivaling the memory capabilities of other leading AI models.
The update is currently rolling out in English for Gemini Advanced subscribers via the Google One AI Premium Plan. Google plans to expand support to more languages in the coming weeks and extend the feature to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers.
