Casio commemorates 50 years of watchmaking with a limited-edition recreation of its iconic Casiotron watch. The new model pays homage to the original with its distinctive circular case, rectangular digital display, and a striking blue and gold color scheme inspired by the sky, sea, and sunlight.
The watch features a stainless steel case with a screw-lock back adorned with a gold 50th anniversary logo. But the nostalgia trip doesn’t stop there. The designers have included subtle nods to the original Casiotron throughout, such as the fluted pattern surrounding the display and the four buttons on the outside of the case. Even the prominent “Casiotron” inscription at the six o’clock position has been faithfully recreated.
Looking beyond the vintage design cues, the new Casiotron boasts a suite of modern features that cater to the needs of today’s watch wearers. Bluetooth connectivity ensures automatic time adjustment when traveling between time zones, while a dedicated Casio app allows for easy customization of settings. A solar panel on the dial keeps the battery topped up indefinitely, eliminating the need for inconvenient battery replacements. The watch also comes equipped with a stopwatch accurate to 1/100th of a second, up to five daily alarms, a countdown timer that can be set for between one second and 24 hours, and a full calendar that’s accurate until the year 2099.
Casio has not disclosed the production quantity, adding to the exclusivity of this timepiece. The limited-edition watch is priced at $550 in the US, with prices for other markets yet to be announced..
