According to 9to5Mac, there is evidence in the iOS 18 beta 4 code suggesting that Apple is working on integrating its Apple Intelligence technology into Apple Music. Specifically, the code indicates a new feature that will enable users to create custom playlist artwork using AI.
This new functionality, potentially accessible through a “Create Image” button while editing playlists, will reportedly utilize the Image Playground app, part of the Apple Intelligence suite. Image Playground, introduced at WWDC 2024,allows users to generate images in various styles like animation, illustration, and sketch through text prompts.
While Apple has yet to officially announce this feature, it’s likely that users will be able to describe their desired playlist artwork, and Apple Music will generate several options for them to choose from.
However, like other Apple Intelligence features, this one is still under development and not currently available to beta testers. Apple initially suggested some AI features would be available in beta this summer, but those references have since been removed from their website.
A recent Bloomberg report even hinted that some AI features might not arrive until 2025. Considering the absence of Apple Intelligence in beta 4, it seems increasingly plausible that these features might be delayed until iOS 18.1 or a later update.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding the release timeline, the prospect of AI-generated playlist artwork is an exciting development for Apple Music users. With iOS 18 set to launch this fall, developers and public beta users can already get a taste of the new operating system and its upcoming features.
