Android 16 is set to introduce a new feature that will significantly improve photo quality in low-light conditions. The Night Mode Indicator API will enable apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook to automatically detect dim lighting and activate the Night Mode Camera Extension. This will result in brighter, clearer images with reduced noise.
This feature has already been implemented in Instagram on select devices, including the Pixel 6 and newer, and Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6. When activated, a moon icon appears in the Instagram app, indicating that Night Mode is available.
Google’s Night Mode Indicator API promises to enhance the photography experience on Android devices, particularly in challenging low-light environments.
