Adobe is giving its flagship design software, Illustrator and Photoshop, a major boost with new tools and generative AI features aimed at streamlining creative workflows. The most exciting developments are coming to Illustrator, powered by Adobe’s latest Firefly Vector AI model, which is now available for public beta testing.
Firefly Vector Unleashes Creative Possibilities
The Firefly Vector model fuels several new Illustrator features, including Generative Shape Fill, allowing users to effortlessly add intricate vector details to shapes using text prompts. It also enhances existing features like Text to Pattern, enabling the creation of scalable vector patterns from text descriptions, and Style Reference, which generates outputs that emulate existing styles.
Beyond AI, Illustrator also gets a Dimension tool for automatic sizing, a Mockup feature for 3D product previews, and Retype for converting static image text into editable text.
Photoshop Gets a Power Boost
Photoshop hasn’t been left behind. The Generate Image feature, driven by Adobe’s Firefly Image 3 Model, is now widely available on both desktop and web apps. Additionally, the Enhance Detail feature for Generative Fill delivers sharper and more detailed results for large images, while the Selection Brush tool simplifies object selection by painting over them.
Adobe assures users that its Firefly models are ethically trained on licensed content, not customer projects. However, the company’s foray into generative AI hasn’t been without controversy, with some creative professionals expressing concerns about potential job displacement.
