Huawei recently unveiled its latest flagship smartwatch series, the HUAWEI WATCH GT 4, in the UAE. The focus of this release extends beyond health and fitness, emphasizing a new aesthetic and fashion-forward design. We had the opportunity to experience the new Dynamic Octagon design version in 46mm, and here’s our take.
Design and Hardware
The Dynamic Octagon design version stands out with its distinctive octagonal watch bezel, creating a rugged and sturdy overall feel. Crafted from Stainless Steel with a matte, anodized finish, the WATCH GT 4 exudes a premium and luxurious vibe.
Huawei has also updated the hardware on this series with its latest TruSeen 5.5+ optical heart rate sensor and an upgraded dual-band, five-system GNSS radio (global navigation satellite system). Additionally, there’s a new smart menstrual cycle tracking, and an improved sleep tracking with breathing awareness system.
The upgraded TruSeenTM 5.5+ heart rate monitoring algorithm brings better precision and efficiency for analysing workout performance and daily health monitoring with the support of AI algorithms. The TruSeenTM 5.5+ enhances data read from the real optical readings from the sensor and incorporates a multi-channel signal enhancement algorithm rooted in proprietary deep AI machine learning. It enhances the data through online model training that is based on current activity state and personal multi-dimensional historical activity data characteristics. This approach enhances the data accuracy even under less-than- optimal reading conditions.
As for the upgraded dual-band, five-system GNSS radio, Huawei is saying that the system adjusts the signals to follow the movement of satellites in orbit. The new design ensures that the direction of the radiation waves is constantly pointed towards to the sky, from which it effectively retrieves satellite signals. This supposedly improves the positioning accuracy by 30% and ensures that the connection stays stable and accurate even during any movement while users are exercising.
Huawei also brings TruSleepTM 3.0 which enables better accuracy in sleep tracking. it records the quality of your sleep, on top of the existing ability to automatically detect the user’s duration of sleep and present the comprehensive sleep structure of sleep and naps (including light sleep, deep sleep, REM and awake) by analysing multiple physiological parameters based on body movement, heart rate and HRV.
