Design
Most tech I buy is black, while most things razer makes are black with a hint of green and a little bit of RGB to top it off, but the Kraken X in mercury white was just something very appealing. Unfortunately, it did not have RGB or the green snake on it. This is nice because the grey snake looks a lot better.
The build does feel a bit cheap, it’s a razer product, so I expected a better build quality, but given its price point, it’s not too bad. However, I would have preferred if Razer had braided cables. Alternatively, Razer could have also opted for removable cable and mic, adding value without adding too much to the price.
We would have also loved to see rotatable drivers so the headphones could be placed flat on any surface like we recently saw with our review of the Philips PH805.
Features
The headphones come with virtual 7.1 surround sound via razers own software, which did not make a massive difference in some of the content I tried.
One feature I found to be cool was a button to mute the microphone. The headset also has volume controls, so you don’t have a dangling audio control that can get in the way of an intense gaming session.
The audio is audible and clear, thanks to the 40MM drivers used in the headphones.
Fit and Comfort.
I spent 4-6 hours working on a project and did not even realize that the headphones were on. This was most likely due to the cutout the headphones have in between the muffs, allowing people with glasses to have more comfort. Razer markets this as the hidden indented eyewear channel to elimiate pressue from glasses.
Connectivity
The cable is relatively short, and I recommend using a cable extension AUX cable if your pc is more than 0.5M from where you sit. In my case, I have an aux port built into my monitor, so I did not need one. There is also a mic & headphone splitter if you dont have a combo jack.
Price
The price I got it for was 170 AED. It was at a discount on amazon from its price of 199 AED. I would say that it is a good value offering considering the features packed inside it.
Verdict
Overall, I did like the headphones quite a bit. In addition, the white headphones were a good change from the usual black accessories most gamers use. I would recommend this as a solid buy.
