League of legends Arcane is a Netflix show based on the popular online game League of Legends by Riot Games. The story of the series, or at least the first six episodes, set’s the backstory of some in-game champions such as Vi, Jinx, Ekko, Singed, Caitlyn, Jayce, Heimerdinger, Viktor & Kindred.
The series does a lot more than just being a fan service; instead, humanizing many of these champions. I no longer saw these champions as the annoyingly-good league players I might lose to but rather the individuals they are.
This is quite strange as not many videogame contents can pull the viewers into empathizing with their characters. But the bar is relatively low for that one (looking at the 1993 Mario bros movie).
However, this was not the opinion I had in my first few minutes. Episode one started with an angelic battle between what looked like clone troopers with muskets battling villagers with sticks. Fairness aside, the battle of the bridge did set the tone for the rest of the series.
Every three episodes in arcane are part of an act with each leg setting part of the series; the first act sets a tone and the story of our protagonists. We learn some interesting things about their sphere of influence and that Jinxes real name is powder. Who knew?.
This is something the 18-year-old me wanted from this series, so It is safe to say I am an absolute fan of the Netflix series. I am happy to recommend this to anyone who wants to experience rich storytelling and fall in love with video game tv-shows.
