Acer has a range of monitors for everything from gaming to everyday usage. The monitor we are reviewing here is the Acer KG271. A 27-inch 165hz e-sports beast.
Design & Build
The KG271 is not exactly a great-looking monitor on the rear at least. Huge screen with minimal bezels on the front but a true oldie from the rear, I felt like I was back in 2010 for a moment perhaps Acer could take a few cues from dell in this regard.
The buttons at the front panel are easy to use and clicky.
Specs & Performance
This monitor has some respectful specs for the value proposition it offers.
The specs are:
- FreeSync Support
- VA Panel
- Speakers
- 0.7ms Response
- 27” LED display
- 1920 x 1080 resolution (FULL HD)
- Up to 165 Hz Refresh Rate
Having a VA Panel is not something I would normally consider very gamer-focused (I prefer story-based games). But a pro gamer is more focused on response time and refresh rate. A VA Panel is usually much better for the visual aspect.
The Acer delivers the visual side of things. The viewing angles are pretty, and the colors pop. And should you be one of those people who likes the brightness on max the Acer could light up the room?
Keeping the visuals in mind, the KG271 has a 0.7 ms response time. While the 165Hz refresh rate is great and the FreeSync support helps make the overall gaming experience perfect.
The speakers are not amazing but it’s a nice thing to have, we would recommend a good pair of external speakers or headphones.
Ports and What’s in the box
The Acer has a limited selection of ports but given that this is not an awfully expensive display you get what you pay for and the value proposition is definitely there.
Here is the complete breakdown of the ports:
- Video In:
- 1x DisplayPort 1.2
- 2x HDMI 2.0
- Audio:
- 3.5mm Audio out
In the box, you get a DisplayPort Cable. That is about everything you would need to get you started if you are a hardcore pc gamer, but we would have liked the cable to be of better quality and have an HDMI cable too.
Summary
The Acer KG271 is a solid contender for an affordable 1080p 165hz display, given its price point we would recommend it as a buy any day espcially if you are into esports.
