The SN570 from Western Digital is a Solid State Drive that boasts supreme value for money. This translates to more GBs for your money. Our review of the WD SN570 looks into all that is offered by this SSD.
WD SN570 is not a new drive, but it’s a tried and tested formula that can be relied on.
Specs
The WD SN570 is an NVMe drive, which means it’s a tiny device that barely takes up any internal volume on your system. A tiny drive makes for a great solution for compact laptops that want speed and higher volumes of storage.
Specifically it is a M.2 2280 drive, which means the size is 22mm wide and 80mm long and the M.2 means it uses the PCIe connection making it faster than regular drives.
The WD SN570 is rated to have 3,500 MB/s read speed and a 2,300 MB/s write speed.
Another thing to note is that WD has designed the SN570 to be single sided, which means all the components are placed on the top of the drie, making it less dense (capping out at 2TB) but making it thinner overall.
In terms of security there isn’t any hardware supported AES 256-bit encryption. But the drive does securely format and also has S.M.A.R.T. data reporting, which means it can highlight problems in the SSD before failure, making it so that you don’t lose data if you’re vigilant. Both of these points are more meant for IT personnel and won’t be looked at by the average consumer.
Usage
The SN570 is targeted around the average consumer who wants a reliable storage solution that can run their computer or be used as secondary storage.
You get quick boot times and good stable transfer speeds for daily office tasks.
This drive can be used as a backup solution, however this is not the main use case. Ideally this drive can be used to replace any HDD or slower/older SSDs that are old.
It’s a cheap replacement that will serve you well till you need to replace them again, in maybe 8-10 years with hopefully another SN570 at a lower price ;).
One good thing is that you get a 5-year warranty from WD for these drives, which is pretty generous.
Performance
The WD SN570 is an NVMe drive, which means that this drive is fast.
In our test, the first batch of 1GB read write got us speeds close to the specs of:
Read speed of 3,446 MB/s and Write speed of 2,434. The read speed was slightly lower, while the write speed was higher. Overall this is a win.
On subsequent runs, the speed dropped off quite significantly. This is not unusual as most drives do this. Given the price, this is the major trade off with this drive. If you want higher sustained read/write speeds, then you need to go for more expensive drives.
If however you are a regular user, who uses their laptop for writing documents, browsing the web or even watching movies. This drive is more than fast enough.
Here are the results of the benchmark we ran.
Price
Laptop and desktop storage prices have come down over the years at a constant rate. Hard Disk Drives, those drives that have moving parts, have almost reached their lowest viable price.
With the simple fact that SSDs are smaller and have fewer parts, chances are that the prices will just keep dropping.
You can find the 500GB WD SN570 for less than 95 AED (at the time of writing this article). You also get a 1 month subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud for free.
This equals less than 0.19 AED/GB. An amazing price for a reliable drive.

Conclusion
The WD SN570 is a no-brainer for anyone looking for a cheap/reliable drive for their laptop or desktop. You can even pair this with a NVMe enclosure and make this into a very cheap external drive that will be quite rugged since it’s an SSD and doesn’t have any moving parts.
If you want gaming performance, then this is not the drive for you, but for everyone else, this is the one to get.
