Simon is an electronic game invented by Ralph H. Baer and Howard J. Morrison and was first released in 1978 by the Milton Bradley Company, now owned by Hasbro. The game consists of a circular console with four large colored buttons – red, blue, green, and yellow. The console emits a sequence of tones and lights, which the player must then repeat by pressing the buttons in the correct order. As the game progresses, the sequences get longer and more complex.
Simon quickly became popular and was a huge success in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Its simple but addictive gameplay made it a hit with people of all ages, and it was played in homes, schools, and even in arcades. Milton Bradley sold millions of units of the game in its first few years.
In the years that followed, several variations of the game were released, including the smaller Simon Pocket, Simon Air, and Simon Swipe. Simon also became a cultural icon, appearing in TV shows and movies, and even inspiring popular music.
Today, Simon continues to be a beloved classic game and has inspired many similar games and apps. In 2013, the game was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame, cementing its place in history as one of the most iconic electronic games of all time.
