Sony’s February 2025 State of Play broadcast showcased a mix of upcoming third-party titles and a few first-party reveals, providing a glimpse into PlayStation’s plans for the year. While some anticipated first-party heavy hitters were absent, the presentation delivered release dates, gameplay trailers, and even a surprise launch, offering something for a variety of PlayStation fans.
First-Party Highlights:
Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, teased its next project, Saros. Set to launch in 2026, Saros will expand on Returnal‘s roguelike formula. A gameplay reveal is expected later in the year.
Days Gone is getting the remaster treatment. Days Gone Remastered will launch with enhanced visuals and new features, including a permadeath mode, a speedrun mode, and a survival horde mode. Accessibility options will also be included, and the remaster will support VRR and PS5 Pro capabilities. Existing Days Gone owners on PS4 can upgrade for a fee.
Third-Party Spotlight:
Borderlands 4 made a splash with its first gameplay trailer, showcasing the series’ signature visual style and fast-paced gunplay. The game is set to release on September 23, with a dedicated State of Play presentation planned for the spring.
As leaked prior to the event, Metal Gear Solid Delta will launch on August 28. The trailer offered a more in-depth look at the remake, and a surprise teaser at the end hinted at an Ape Escape crossover, another leak that proved accurate.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds debuted a new trailer showcasing its roster of Sonic characters and imaginative tracks. A Closed Network Test is scheduled for February 21.
A surprise release came in the form of Warriors: Abyss, a new roguelike from Koei Tecmo that reimagines the Dynasty Warriors series with a top-down perspective.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword received a new trailer focusing on its protagonist and gameplay. The game is slated for a 2026 release.
Lies of P: Overture, a prequel DLC for Lies of P, was revealed. The DLC will explore the origins of the Puppet Frenzy and lead into the events of the main game. It is expected to launch this summer.
