At IFA 2024, TCL has showcased a range of devices that put user comfort first, focusing on eye care rather than competing with the latest flagship smartphones. The standout releases include the TAB 11 Gen 2 tablet and the TCL 50 NXTPAPER series phones, all offering a blend of affordability, sleek design, and visual comfort.
The NXTPAPER Difference
The highlight of these new devices is TCL’s innovative NXTPAPER display technology, which creates a paper-like viewing experience. This technology reduces eye strain and conserves battery life, allowing users to enjoy extended usage without sacrificing comfort.
TCL is also introducing the NXTPAPER Key to its phones. With a single click, users can instantly switch the screen to an e-ink format, further enhancing the paper-like feel and maximizing battery efficiency. This feature is reminiscent of dedicated e-readers but integrated into a fully functional smartphone.
TCL 50 NXTPAPER Series: Eye Comfort Meets Functionality
Both phones in the TCL 50 NXTPAPER series share similar hardware, featuring a 6.8-inch FHD+ screen with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and the signature NXTPAPER technology on 2.5D curved glass. The displays also offer a respectable peak brightness of 650 nits and a fingerprint-resistant coating.
For those who enjoy digital note-taking and drawing, TCL offers the T-Pen stylus, compatible with both NXTPAPER phones.
Under the hood, both phones are powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 processor and come with Android 14 pre-installed. It’s worth noting that these devices will receive only two Android OS updates, meaning their software support will end after Android 16.
The phones are equipped with a generous 5,010 mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. Impressively, TCL includes a 33W charger in the box, a welcome addition in an era where many manufacturers are omitting chargers.
In the camera department, both phones sport a 108-megapixel primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro lens. The main difference lies in the front-facing camera: the standard TCL 50 NXTPAPER has an 8MP selfie camera, while the Pro model boasts a 32MP sensor.
Both phones have 8GB of RAM, but the standard model offers 256GB of internal storage, while the Pro version provides a more spacious 512GB. Thankfully, both phones support microSD cards up to 2TB for additional storage. Security is handled by a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
TCL Tab 11 Gen 2: Affordable Entertainment with Enhanced Visuals
TCL is also expanding its tablet lineup with the Tab 11 Gen 2, featuring NXTVISION display technology for improved clarity and color reproduction.
While not the most powerful tablet on the market, the Tab 11 Gen 2 focuses on delivering a satisfying multimedia experience at an affordable price. It features a 10.95-inch full-HD+ display, a 9,000mAh battery with up to 13 hours of video playback, and 18W fast charging.
The tablet is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G80 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Like the NXTPAPER phones, the Tab 11 Gen 2 includes a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 1TB, and an 18W charger is included in the box.
For photography, the tablet has a 5MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear camera. TCL has set a competitive price of €199 for the Tab 11 Gen 2, which will be available in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Europe.
Pricing and Availability
The TCL 50 Pro NXTPAPER is priced at €299, while the standard model costs €229 in the European market.
