New images have surfaced online, providing a glimpse into the upcoming CarPlay 2 interface and its custom widget functionality. The leaked screenshots, discovered in an EU database, showcase a widget system similar to that found in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
Familiar Widgets, New CarPlay
The leaked images reveal a range of familiar widgets, including:
- Clock widget displaying the time in different cities
- Weather widget with forecast information
- Calendar widget highlighting upcoming events
- Navigation and Now Playing combo widget
- Standalone Now Playing widget
These widgets, along with a column of apps on the left edge of the screen, create a user experience reminiscent of the current CarPlay interface, but with added customization options.
Despite Apple’s initial claim that CarPlay 2 would arrive in 2024, the updated system has yet to materialize. This delay has led some users to question whether Apple should focus on improving the existing CarPlay experience rather than developing a completely new system.
While the leaked CarPlay 2 interface appears familiar, the addition of custom widgets could significantly enhance the user experience. The ability to personalize the display with relevant information and controls could make CarPlay even more intuitive and convenient for drivers.
