Apple’s Mail app for macOS is set to receive an AI-driven upgrade that introduces intelligent email categorization, a feature already available on iOS. This enhancement aims to improve inbox organization and streamline email management for Mac users.
Expected to arrive with the macOS 15.4 update in April, the new categorization system automatically sorts emails into four categories: Primary, Promotions, Updates, and Transactions. This allows users to quickly identify and prioritize important messages while filtering out less urgent ones.
While the categorization feature has been generally well-received on iOS, some users have reported occasional miscategorization of emails. Apple has time to address these concerns before the feature’s rollout on macOS, potentially refining the algorithm and improving its accuracy.
This upgrade builds upon existing AI capabilities within the macOS Mail app, such as Smart Reply, Priority Messages, and email summarization. It also complements the recently introduced Writing Tools powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which assist users with composing and refining email content.
