Oppo has recently unveiled ColorOS 15, its latest Android 15-based update. This new version brings a range of UI updates, a focus on animations, and several AI features.
UI Updates
- Split notification shade: Similar to Samsung’s One UI 7 and rumored future changes in Android, ColorOS 15 separates the notification shade from the Quick Settings. This allows for easier access to notifications and quick toggles.
- AI-powered features: Oppo has integrated a number of AI-powered features into ColorOS 15, including a new way to interact with its XiaoBu Assistant using natural language, the ability to circle content on screen to search for more information, and AI-powered image processing and editing features such as blur removal, image upscaling, reflection removal, and content summarization.
Animations
ColorOS 15 introduces the “Aurora and Tidal Engine,” which allows animations to run in parallel for a smoother experience when switching between apps. Additionally, “Motion Effects” enhance the animations both in Oppo’s apps and third-party apps. Oppo claims that these improvements have resulted in a 26% increase in app installation speed and an 18% improvement in app responsiveness.
iOS-inspired features
Oppo has not been shy about borrowing inspiration from iOS, and ColorOS 15 is no exception. Some notable similarities include:
- Dynamic Island: ColorOS 15 features a clone of Dynamic Island, which displays notifications and other information in a pill-shaped cutout at the top of the screen.
- Customizable lock screen: The lock screen in ColorOS 15 is highly customizable, allowing users to separate pieces of the wallpaper and store multiple lock screen configurations, similar to Apple’s implementation.
- Siri-like assistant: Oppo’s AI assistant, XiaoBu, has the same interface as Siri with Apple Intelligence, with a colorful light-up border around the screen when activated.
Availability
Oppo plans to start rolling out ColorOS 15 in November on devices such as the Find X7, with the update expanding to dozens of Oppo and OnePlus devices in China and the global market through March of next year. OnePlus has also announced plans to unveil its own Android 15 update, OxygenOS 15, next week, which is expected to have most of the same features and designs as ColorOS 15.
