In the wake of the recent ban on TikTok and its associated apps, including the popular video editing tool CapCut, Instagram has announced its own mobile video editing app called “Edits.” Set to launch next month, Edits aims to provide creators with a comprehensive set of tools for producing high-quality Reels content directly from their smartphones.
Edits offers a mobile-optimized interface and supports a wide range of features commonly used in video editing. Users will be able to add custom text, captions, audio tracks, stickers, and special effects to their video clips. The app also includes AI-powered tools for generating content and supports the use of green screens for creative backgrounds.Additionally, Edits will allow users to record video clips within the app, with options to adjust resolution and frame rate.
One of the key features that sets Edits apart is its deep integration with Instagram. The app will include a dedicated tab for accessing insights, allowing creators to track the performance of their Reels and gain a better understanding of their audience engagement. Edits will also feature a section dedicated to inspiration and ideation, providing users with creative prompts and ideas for their video content.
Edits is scheduled to launch in February. Pre-orders for the app are currently available on the Apple App Store for iOS users. While a listing on Google’s Play Store for Android users is not yet live, it is expected to become available soon.
The launch of Edits comes at a time when many creators are seeking alternatives to CapCut, which was recently banned in the US along with TikTok and other ByteDance-owned apps. With its comprehensive feature set and tight integration with Instagram, Edits has the potential to become a valuable tool for those looking to create engaging short-form video content.
