Apple TV+ has announced a series order for “Cape Fear,” a new thriller series based on the classic novel and films. The 10-episode series will star Academy Award winner Javier Bardem as Max Cady, a notorious killer who seeks revenge on the attorneys who put him behind bars.
The series is described as a tense, Hitchcockian thriller that explores America’s fascination with true crime. It will be written and showrun by Nick Antosca, known for his work on acclaimed series such as “The Act” and “Candy.” Academy Award winners Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg will serve as executive producers.
“Cape Fear” is based on the novel “The Executioners,” which inspired the 1962 film starring Gregory Peck and the 1991 remake directed by Scorsese. The series will draw inspiration from both the novel and the films, offering a fresh perspective on the classic story.
This project marks another collaboration between Apple TV+ and Amblin Television, following the success of the acclaimed series “Masters of the Air.” Apple also recently worked with Scorsese on the Oscar-nominated film “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
Bardem’s involvement in “Cape Fear” adds to his growing list of projects with Apple. He will also star in the upcoming Apple Original Film “F1,” set for release in 2025.
